natureloo 850

If you’re looking at buying a composting toilet in 2019, you’re no doubt going to want to know what’s the best composting toilet, right? Well there’s really no one answer to that question as the best composting toilet is the toilet that suits your needs. As there are many different types of toilets that vary in how they work, the way they’re installed and how they can be used, there’s no one perfect composting toilet for everyone.

In saying that we’re going to introduce you to the Nature Loo 850 which we think is one of the best all-round composting toilets you can buy in Australia. Over the years we’ve come up with some pretty forward thinking designs for composting toilets. We’ve created toilets that will fit in tiny homes, RVs and caravans along with composting toilets for large homes with big families.

The Classic 850 is possibly our best design yet with lots of minor (and major) design improvements to make sure you get the most out of your brand new composting toilet.

What’s so great about the Nature Loo Classic 850?

For starters it’s a great size for most families being able to take up to 3-6 people on a permanent basis or 4-8 people part time (perfect for holiday homes or seasonal accommodation).

It comes with wheels!

We don’t typically get too excited about wheels on toilets (unless of course you’re talking about the world’s fastest toilet!) but these wheels make it so much easier to take out the bottom chambers of the 850 and change them over, move them around for finishing or wheel them into your garden when the compost is finished.

Twin Wall Construction

The unique twin wall chamber construction incorporated over 80 drainage holes that perforates the internal chamber. This helps to greatly improve drainage and air flow into the unit which means better compost and less smells!

This also helps to make sure your composting pile doesn’t get too wet by evaporating excess liquid. A compost pile that’s too wet won’t generate enough heat to create the best composting process and could potentially kill off good Bacteria, Actinobacteria, Fungi and Moulds that you need to create the Mesophilic and Thermophilic composting necessary to create safe, top-soil like compost.

Note: if you’re interested in learning more about the science behind the composting process within a composting toilet, check out What actually happens when you poop in a composting toilet?

Mixer Included

Once people get over their poophobia and realise the compost that comes out of a composting toilet is a natural product, they’re usually more than happy to understand that you need to handle the compost once it’s cured (for more about that check out Safety when handling humanure | 'How to' hints and tips) but we also realise that no one wants to handle the waste product in a composting toilet when it’s ‘fresh’. We get it, we’re not monsters!

That’s why we’ve incorporated a mixer right into the design of the classic 850. And the best thing is you can mix the pile whilst the system is ‘in service’. All you need to do is release bunji loops and turn the lid, that’s it! Easy Peasy.

The biggest benefit of this turning system is when the pile is getting towards the top, the pile tends to have a pyramid or cone shape so you’re able to turn the pile, making it flatter thereby giving you more room and usable space in your container for more humanure!!

Live in a cold climate? No problem

If you happen to live down south or in a colder climate and are wondering how to keep the compost pile at the right temperature throughout those long, cold winter nights – don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

There’s an option to purchase a model with an integrated Heater Pad in the bottom of the chamber. This helps improve the composting conditions during the cold winter months so your poo pile is perpetually in a pleasing place of preparation.
